That's my sister, Christie Purifoy. She's a fantastic writer (check her out!) and I really enjoyed shooting these portraits for her website. I'm used to shooting groups and squirmy kiddos so it was a refreshing experience having one, single, compliant, and perfectly lovely subject.

Christie posts my photos alongside her writing and it has been a total joy working with her. It's incredibly flattering to see my pictures illustrating her beautiful words. Be sure to take some time to go over and read There is a River!

some final D.C. portraits

This gorgeous family met me one cool, blue-sky morning in May at the Jefferson Memorial. All that white marble, the Washington Monument across the river, and two adorable little girls made for some lovely family portraits.

After editing them I was just that much more sad to be leaving such a photographic city!

We are settling into a new normal on the Gulf Coast now and I'm sure I will find my photographer's bearings soon. The white sand beaches are simply beautiful and downtown Pensacola is full of spots that make me want to find people to pose!

I will be on a portrait-taking hiatus for a bit longer while my camera is being cleaned and repaired, but updates and changes will be coming soon to KC Photos. we are so thankful for these past ten months as neighbors -the military may send us in different directions but we know that we will definitely remain good friends

I wonder how big these two will be the next time I see them? talk about lifelong friends...

a very special homecoming

"I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of Him" 1 Samuel 1:27

I was privileged to witness one very special day in the lives of one very beautiful family. It was the day their little boy came home. We waited in the airport for over two hours on pins and needles, straining to catch a glimpse of him walking out of that terminal. His dad had flown to China to find him while his mama was waiting to finally -finally!- hold him in her arms. And when she did...well that moment leaves me without words. This family fought long and hard to bring their sweet son and brother home. What a joy to see it happen and to capture these memories for their lifetime.

Jesus said, "whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name, welcomes me." Matthew 18:5

Those eyes? that skin? the baby teeth? that hair, oh my, that hair?!

I love having the chance to capture all the faces of a baby at play.

Especially when they are as beautiful and fun as cutie Clara's faces!

one week old Liam was sweet as can be and super alert for his portraits.

probably because what he really wanted was to be fed, and swaddled, and left alone to sleep in peace! but he was a good sport and let us capture some beautiful moments.

is there anything more perfect than those tiny newborn features?

nope, didn't think so.

my own crew

Happy New Year! I thought I'd start off 2011 here with some portraits of my own dear three, Tristan, Kenna and Kate.  Every now and then I actually manage to get them all in the same picture and have to pat myself on the back for such an accomplishment! I am in love with this dreamy chocolate finish and always on the lookout for the perfect shots to use it on, so here you have a few of my recent favorites (but I guess I do have a bit of a bias toward those faces!)

Remember that cute pumpkin belly Dana was carrying back in October?  Well, now we know that it was sweet baby girl Faye, waiting to make her appearance, and we're so glad she's here!
